Practical Training of Turistica Students

Practical Training of Turistica Students

Students at Turistica develop professional competencies during their studies in the following ways:

  • through organized internships in tourism companies,
  • through practical training courses offered as elective or compulsory subjects within selected study programmes, and
  • through involvement in real-life challenges faced by tourism businesses (seminar and fieldwork assignments, for example in cooperation with Kempinski Palace Portorož, Hotels Bernardin, Turistično združenje Portorož, etc.).

Professional practice plays an important role in the development of knowledge and the acquisition of relevant experience within the tourism industry. For this reason, it is included as a course component in all first-cycle study programmes at Turistica. Within the Professional Practice course, Turistica places students in real working environments where they can apply the theoretical knowledge gained during their studies and acquire additional professional competencies. The importance of professional practice is also reflected in the number of ECTS credits awarded for the course, ranging from 6 to 18 ECTS credits.

Each year, more than 100 Turistica students complete their professional internships in renowned tourism companies. Turistica regularly collaborates with more than 100 companies, offering internship opportunities across more than 250 different job positions. Company representatives also present career and employment opportunities in tourism in person as guest lecturers within our courses.

Students may also complete their professional practice abroad, for example through the Erasmus+ programme. They share their experiences through the Blog Turistica@World.

Professional practice can also be completed through participation in various tourism-related projects carried out by companies and staff members at Turistica throughout the academic year.
