The Department for Sustainable Destination Development is one of the three research and teaching departments at the Faculty of Tourism Studies Turistica. The departments currently involves eleven academics, whose research and teaching activities contribute to knowledge about sustainable development of tourism destinations. More specifically, research and teaching areas of the department include:
- Development of tourist experiences with high added value and with care for optimal management of tourist resources;
- Strategic sustainable development and marketing of tourism places;
- Sustainable competitiveness and efficient development management of tourist destinations;
- Methods and tools for collaborative destinations for innovative and creative approaches for improving destinations competitiveness.
The department is the largest Slovenian academic department in the field of sustainable destinations development. Members of the department participate in national and international bodies and organisations involved with sustainable tourism. The department regularly publishes in domestic and international academic journals, thus actively contributing to the development and dissemination of knowledge about approaches and factors relevant for sustainable development of tourism places.
The department manages the study programs: Tourism Destination Management, Tourism (2nd level).
