International Conference Encuentros
Encuentros is an international conference organized by the UP Faculty of Tourism Studies – Turistica. Located on the Adriatic coast in the Port of Roses (Portorož), part of the Municipality of Piran, the conference will provide space for Encounters of tourism scholars from various academic disciplines, tourism practitioners and students.
Encuentros – the story of Encuentros
At the Faculty of Tourism Studies - Turistica we understand tourism as a continuum of encounters with people and places. We organized the first Encuentros Conference in 2003 with the intention of transforming tourism conferences into enjoyable gatherings aimed at exchange of knowledge and ideas. Therefore, the Encuentros Conference is not only a series of presentations and exchanges of professional experiences and scientific research, but above all a multidisciplinary, multicultural and multirhythmic encounter of tourism researchers and practitioners. Over the past 15 years, Encuentros has evolved into a biennial international conference attended by over 500 tourism scholars and practitioners from various disciplines and places. The Spanish word encuentros was chosen as the brand name because the World Tourism Organisation (UN WTO) is based in Spain and we also wanted to emphasize the Mediterranean character of tourism and that of the Adriatic resort of Portorož (the Port of Roses) in Slovenia, where the event traditionally takes place.
