The University of Primorska, Faculty of Tourism Studies - Turistica,
invites you to the opening of a new exhibition with a lecture
Portorož Villas - Architectural Heritage and the Tourism of Quiet Luxury from the Turn of the 20th Century
which will take place on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at 1 p.m. in the Atrium of Turistica (Obala 11a, Portorož).

The exhibition showcases the rich architectural heritage of Portorož, with a focus on the flourishing villas as a building type of the wealthier population, coinciding with the rise of Portorož as a mondane resort at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Alongside the construction of hotels, villas began to dominate the Portorož Riviera during this time, imparting an air of exclusivity to the spa resort of the northern Adriatic with their architectural appearance and well-maintained surroundings. Luigia, Leopoldina, Maria, Daria, Lidia, and Amalia are just some of the Portorož villas featured in the exhibition through architectural plans, paintings, and photographs of locations, along with precise details about investors, architects, and construction years.
The exhibition is the result of collaboration between the authors in the tourism-historical study and the digitization of public and private archival materials of the architectural heritage of Portorož.
The opening of the exhibition will be followed by a one-hour lecture in lecture hall 001 by mag. Tomi Brezovec on the role of Portorož villas in the tourist development of the destination.
The exhibition will be open until May 20, 2024.
Exhibition setup: Mag. Tomi Brezovec, UP FTŠ Turistica, in collaboration with the Regional Archive Koper.
