SAFE SUMMER 2026:
Preventive and Safety Culture in Tourism
The University of Primorska, Faculty of Tourism Studies – Turistica, in cooperation with the Koper Police Directorate, will once again organise the traditional event Safe Summer: Preventive and Safety Culture in Tourism. The initiative aims to raise awareness about the factors influencing safety in tourism, the importance of the sense of security for tourism flows, and the search for effective and unobtrusive ways of encouraging visitors to adopt self-protective behaviour.
This year, we will organise a professional discussion titled Preventive and Safety Culture in Tourism, which will take place on Tuesday, 26 May 2026, at 11:00 in Lecture Room 201 at UP FTŠ Turistica.
The central theme of the event will focus on the importance of prevention in avoiding incidents and strengthening the sense of safety among tourism providers and visitors. The discussion will address several current topics related to tourism safety, including:
- recognising suspicious behaviour,
- the role of employees in ensuring safety,
- the importance of communication and presence,
- the impact of safety on guest satisfaction,
- examples of good practices from abroad.
The discussion will be moderated by Dr Janez Mekinc (Turistica). The following speakers will participate in the panel:
- Dominik S. Černjak, President of the Slovenian Tourist Board Association,
- Patricija Gržinič, MSc, Director of the Portorož Tourist Association,
- Matej Družina, Criminal Inspector at the Koper Police Directorate,
- Iztok Gustinčič, radio host and traveller.
The round table discussion will be followed by an open debate.
We sincerely hope that representatives of all partner organisations will attend the event so that, together, we can continue co-creating an even safer and more welcoming environment. We especially invite representatives of municipalities and municipal wardens, beach managers, public utility companies, tourism employees, and all other interested participants.
