Irena Weber, sociologist and anthropologist, is an assistant professor of social sciences and humanities in tourism at the Faculty of tourism studies – TURISTICA, University of Primorska. Graduated and acquired MA at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana, Department of Sociology, and received a student national Prešeren award for graduation work “Tourism as social phenomenon”. Received Ph.D. at Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, Department of Sociology of Culture. With British Council Grant did a non-degree postgraduate research at SOAS, University of London, Department of Anthropology. In 2015, she was a visiting scholar at San Diego State University (USA), Department of Geography.
She is a member of a Department of Cultural tourism. Her research interest include anthropology and sociology of tourism, Mediterranean, cultural heritage, cultural mobility, anthropology of space, culinary tourism, film and literary tourism, qualitative methodology, childhood studies, art and tourism. She is the author of two monographs on anthropology of tourism and several scientific articles published in Anthropological notebooks, Teorija in praksa, Annales, Časopis za kritiko znanosti. She has conducted fieldwork in Central America, USA, SE Asia, Istria and Montenegro.
