The colloquium and roundtable were organized within the framework of a project on mechanisms for resolving disputes regarding cultural heritage, carried out in accordance with the protocol on bilateral cooperation between the national scientific agencies TÜBİTAK Turkey and ARIS Slovenia. The insights shared by the speakers enabled participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of various cultural heritage protection systems.
During the fieldwork segment of the colloquium, the project teams visited the archaeological sites of Zeugma, Göbekli Tepe, and Şanlıurfa. They found that these archaeological sites are still active but are open to tourism while being well-protected both physically and financially. The ticket fees allow heritage custodians to maintain them while regulating visits and preventing mass tourism.
The project leaders agreed that the project's concluding meeting would take place in Istanbul in the autumn of 2024. Representing Turistica, Prof. Dr. Tadeja Jere Jakulin, Milka Sinkovič, Lect., and Daša Okrožnik, MA, attended the colloquium and roundtable discussions, along with Prof. Dr. Irena Lazar, Dean of UP, Faculty of Humanities.
Such meetings are crucial for furthering connections and cooperation between the two countries in the protection and preservation of cultural heritage.
