The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, University of Surrey (UK) and the Faculty of Tourism Studies - Turistica, University of Primorska (Slovenia), are jointly hosting a series of three online seminars on the theme of ‘Events: Conflict and Contestation’.
The first of these online seminars on the topic of ‘dark events’ was successfully implemented at the end of April. The second one will be on the 24th May, from 14.00-16.00 CET, on the topic of Commemoration and traumatic pasts: between memory and consumerism.
This seminar will bring together heterogeneous contributors to examine the relationship between commemoration, traumatic pasts and the ways in which these events are experienced and consumed. The theme of the first online seminar – ‘dark events’ – will not be completely neglected. During the seminar, perspectives from cultural and heritage studies, dark tourism, nostalgia and consumerism will be presented, and attendees can join these discussions during the event. More details about the contributors and their research topics are in the poster below.
This seminar is free to attend and registration can be completed using this short online form: https://bit.ly/memoryevents
