where the presentation of the scientific monograph Between Venice and Vienna: Cultural Heritage as an Object of National Prestige and Spatial Identity,
by Dr. Salvator Žitko and Dr. Brigitte Mader, will take place.

About the book
The scholarly monograph Between Venice and Vienna offers an in-depth analysis of how cultural heritage in Istria and the Adriatic border region was used as a tool of political influence, national prestige and ideological identity formation from the Venetian era to Slovenia's independence.
Ab out the authors
Dr. Salvator Žitko, long-time director of the Koper Regional Museum and editor of the scientific journal Annales, has dedicated his career to the political and cultural history of Istria.
Dr. phil. Brigitta Mader, Austrian researcher and lecturer at the University of Vienna and the IRRIS Institute in Koper, has published widely on archaeology, heritage protection, and the history of science in the Habsburg Empire.
The authors present with historical and archaeological precision the movements of artworks, archives and other cultural assets between countries and regimes – from the confiscation of valuable objects during the Austro-Hungarian and Fascist Italy eras, through the complex issues of restitution after World War II, and up to the period of independent Slovenia. Special emphasis is placed on the role of museums, church institutions and archives, as well as local efforts to preserve heritage.
Join us for an engaging discussion on the role of cultural heritage in both historical and contemporary contexts, and an interdisciplinary dialogue bridging history, archaeology, and identity studies.
The event is organized by third-year students of the program Tourism as part of the course Cultural Events (Urška Ravnikar, Klara Filo, and Ivona Mirić), under the mentorship of Prof. Dr. Tadeja Jere Jakulin and with the assistance of librarian Tilen Bihar.
