Metod Šuligoj

Metod Šuligoj is a full professor at the Faculty of Tourism Studies Portorož – TURISTICA, University of Primorska. He started his professional career in the company HIT, d.d. Nova Gorica, where he was promoted to hotel manager and later to project manager. He obtained his PhD degree from the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana in 2009. In 2021 he received his second PhD in (historical) sociology from Catholic University of Croatia. His main research interests include management in tourism industry, history of tourism and special interests tourism (especially dark tourism). Researching and teaching activities of Metod Šuligoj, PhD, are based on more than ten years of experience in the hotel industry. In 2022, he was awarded the University of Primorska Award for scientific excellence. He is also the co-author of the concept of the dark event. His pedagogical work is distinguished by notable achievements in mentoring young researchers, particularly through the co-authorship of academic papers published in indexed journals with students. The quality of his mentorship is reflected in the awards students have received for their final theses at all three levels of study. He has also supported students in achieving outstanding results in international competitions. In addition to research and teaching activities, he is also an Experts witness in the field of hospitality industry and quality. In the past, however, he was engaged as an Accommodation assessor, and an EFQM Excellence Assessor in Slovenia.
