Rector’s Day Reunites the University of Primorska

On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, Rector’s Day once again brought together the staff and students of the University of Primorska (UP), promoting collaboration and team spirit through a diverse program of sports, cultural, social, and educational activities.

Traditionally, some participants began the day with a seaside walkfrom Koper to Simon Bay, visiting the Archaeological Park, or from Turistica to the Piran Aquarium, thus exploring both founding units of the UP Science Center. Others chose a hike to Slavnik with the Department of Biodiversity or a group rollerblading trip between Koper and Izola. Physical fitness measurements were provided this year by ŠportUP.

The UP Book Club started the day with an hour of complete reading silence as part of its traditional morning reading gathering. Firefighters from Pobegi-Čežarji, which includes UP staff volunteers, gave a presentation on their daily work and provided education on basic fire safety procedures. This was followed by a guided tour of the renovated Collegio dei Nobili building in Koper—the oldest school building in Slovenia, where Italian primary and secondary school education has been taking place since 1683, with UP collaborating closely on programs in Italian studies and pedagogy. Visitors were also impressed by the guided tour of the new Museum of Freight and Transport in Senožeče, which offered insights into sustainable ways of connecting history, cultural heritage, and tourism. The UP FHŠ contributed both to the museum’s content curation and its current management.

This year’s diverse selection of workshops catered to all interests. At UP FVZ, participants measured body composition using a body analyzer, while at UP FTŠ Turistica, a workshop demonstrated proper source citation using Zotero. UP FM hosted a Brain Gym workshop—learning through movement, and UP FAMNIT offered a mindfulness workshop titled Peaceful Mind on a Restless Day. At UP there was a session on the flow of energy among people. A workshop promoting sustainable behavior and social interaction through creative activities, Stitch for Sustainability, allowed participants to decorate clothing with embroidery in the Armerija UP hall.

The Center for Responsible Artificial Intelligence (CeResAI UP), in collaboration with the Commission for Ethics in Research, presented a virtual lecture on the ethical and competent use of generative AI. They also introduced the FRAME systempractical guidelines and recommendations for the thoughtful and responsible integration of generative AI in UP’s educational environment.
