The research conducted at the University of Primorska Faculty of Tourism Studies – Turistica has received an important international recognition. Two researchers from the Faculty, together with distinguished international collaborators, received the prestigious Charles R. Goeldner Award for the best scientific article published in one of the world's leading tourism journals, the Journal of Travel Research. The award highlights the significance of the Faculty's research and its strong international research collaboration.
The Charles R. Goeldner Award was presented to the researchers at the 56th Annual Travel and Tourism Research Association (TTRA) International Conference, held in late June in Greenville, South Carolina, USA. The award-winning article was the result of an international collaboration between Emil Juvan (University of Primorska, Faculty of Tourism Studies – Turistica, Slovenia), Sara Dolnicar (The University of Queensland, Australia, and the University of Primorska, Faculty of Tourism Studies – Turistica, Slovenia), Bettina Grün (Vienna University of Economics and Business, Austria), and Oscar Zhu (Zhejiang University, China).
The Charles R. Goeldner Award is one of the most prestigious international recognitions in the field of tourism research. It is presented annually to the authors of the best scientific article published in the Journal of Travel Research (impact factor: 9.7), one of the world's most influential and highly cited journals in tourism studies.
The award-winning article, On the Importance of Field Studies for Testing Theory-Driven Behavioral Change Interventions in (Sustainable) Tourism, examines the importance of field studies in testing theory-driven behavioural change interventions in (sustainable) tourism. The authors argue that only by observing the behaviour of tourists and other stakeholders in real-life settings can the effectiveness of measures designed to encourage more sustainable behaviour be reliably assessed. Their findings make an important contribution to the development of evidence-based approaches for designing more effective sustainable tourism policies and practices.
The award represents an important international recognition of the excellence of the research conducted by researchers at the University of Primorska Faculty of Tourism Studies – Turistica and of their successful collaboration with leading research institutions worldwide.
