SIGNED AGREEMENT BETWEEN LEADING TOURISM RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS IN SLOVENIA AND CROATIA
Portorož, 5 May 2026 – The Faculty of Tourism Studies of the University of Primorska and the Croatian Institute for Tourism signed a cooperation agreement in Portorož today in the field of tourism research. The partnership is based on the extensive research experience of both institutions and a shared ambition to develop a digital platform for communicating research findings to the wider public.
Through the integration of knowledge, data exchange, and joint research projects, the two institutions will contribute to the development of more resilient, inclusive, and sustainability-oriented tourism policies.
The partnership was initiated through this year’s joint research project on the role of women in the promotion of tourism in Istria and Dalmatia. The project opened broader discussions on inclusive and responsible tourism development in the region. The first outcome of this collaboration is also the exhibition Women in the Promotion of Tourism in Istria and Dalmatia in the 19th and 20th Centuries: Views, Images and Roles, which is on display until 15 May 2026 in the White Hall of the Portorož Auditorium. The exhibition presents visual materials from tourism publications of Istria and Dalmatia and highlights the role of women in shaping the tourist image of the Adriatic coast. The exhibition was authored by Dr. Jasenka Kranjčević (Institute for Tourism Zagreb) and MSc Tomi Brezovec (UP FTŠ Turistica).
“Slovenia and Croatia share not only natural assets in tourism, but also historically intertwined patterns of tourism destination development. Today, these destinations require smart, coordinated, and sustainable solutions. Through this research agreement, we are combining knowledge and data that will support the goals of sustainable tourism development, while also establishing a framework for a communication platform emphasising the importance of credible knowledge for tourism management across the wider region,” emphasised the Dean of UP FTŠ Turistica, Dr. Emil Juvan, at the signing ceremony.
The agreement opens opportunities for new joint projects and further strengthens the role of both institutions as key research actors in the region.
