Awards for inclusive UP students

UP awards recognizing student tutors for their support and community engagement

On Wednesday, 19 November 2025, awards were presented to all students who distinguished themselves through additional engagement, dedicating their free time to helping fellow students. In doing so, they not only created an excellent support environment but also a broad network operating in various fields, whose members connect through their activities and form bonds that last a lifetime. The support system is broadly designed and includes various but interconnected groups of students — student tutors, members of the UP Student Council, and members of ESN Primorska. All of them received awards today, prepared by the UP student tutor coordinator Alja Polanec, the president of the UP Student Council Lana Erjavec, and the president of ESN Primorska Emilija Toth. They also expressed their gratitude to everyone who works with them, especially the teacher tutors and those who support them — the coordinators and other support services.

Tutors, with their dedication and support, made the start of studies easier for many new students, guiding and motivating them to integrate more easily into the academic environment. Over the past year, new foundations were also established, numerous trainings were carried out for both student tutors and teacher tutors, and various networking and social activities were organized. All of this is thanks to the student tutors and their coordinators, who guide, support, and motivate them in their work.

There was also a great deal of activity within the student councils of the faculties and the University of Primorska Student Council. The faculty-level student councils actively represented the interests of students and organized various events — from sports and charitable activities to social gatherings that connect students and strengthen the sense of community. The University of Primorska Student Council participated in the amendments and revisions of regulations at the university level, provided opinions on student-related issues, and represented students both at the university and national levels. They also connected with student representatives from other Slovenian and European universities, including through the Transform4Europe network and numerous other initiatives.

The Erasmus Student Network Primorska played an essential role in international engagement, creating memorable experiences for foreign students and fostering a sense of inclusion and belonging. Over the past year, it was instrumental in helping international students adapt to their new environment. Through numerous events and activities, they supported students in making connections, discovering local culture, and building international student networks that enrich the overall university experience. They were also an important part of organising the Staff Week event, which brought employees from various universities to the University of Primorska and initiated discussions on student involvement in academic and extracurricular activities.

What unites and defines the engaged students who dedicate their time to connecting and bringing others together is their excellent mutual support and cooperation, as highlighted in their address: "We have often joined forces, helped one another, exchanged ideas, and encouraged each other. In doing so, we have built not only successful projects but also lasting relationships based on trust and respect. Through all these challenges and achievements, we have proven that together we can push boundaries and build a community that not only reaches its goals but also inspires others. The past year was full of work, learning, fun, and countless unforgettable moments that brought us together as a team and as friends."

The attendees were welcomed and thanked by Lana Erjavec, President of the University of Primorska Student Council, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vesna Jug, UP teacher tutor coordinator. Petra Majcen, UP tutoring system coordinator, also joined in the acknowledgements.
