Turistica students, Tjaša Hajnžič and Lukas Martinjaš, participated in an educational workshop and training programme along the “Following the Kingfisher’s Trail” Nature Learning Path in Cerovo near Grosuplje under the mentorship of lecturer Milka Sinkovič. The thematic trail connects the area’s rich cultural and natural heritage.
The programme was divided into two parts. First, together with nature interpreter Jože Prah, the participants explored Vodomčev gaj (Kingfisher Grove), a carefully managed area renowned for its rich biodiversity and numerous animal and plant habitats. This was followed by an exploration of the forest features along the “Following the Kingfisher’s Trail” Nature Learning Path, where they gained valuable knowledge about the interpretation of natural heritage and received practical guidance for effective tourist guiding.
Such training programmes provide an important opportunity to connect theoretical knowledge with practical experience while developing competencies in the fields of natural heritage interpretation and tourist guiding.
The training took place in the area where the National Tourist Guiding Competition for Young People aged 15 to 29, organised by the Tourist Association of Slovenia, will be held in October 2026. Through the implementation of new youth projects, the organisers aim to strengthen young people's motivation to work in the tourism sector, encourage their personal and professional development, and support the acquisition of non-formal knowledge, particularly in the context of leading and rejuvenating local tourism associations.
