Clean energy instead of electricity for a sustainable cup of coffee in Planica

The last weekend was very dynamic not only for ski jumpers but for our students as well. The FIS World Cup took place in Planica, and as every year so far, our students - interviewers took part in the field research within the research project Environmentally Friendly Behavior. They conducted short interviews under the guidance of research mentor Assoc. prof. Emil Juvan and field coordinator Assist. prof. Miha Lesjak.

As part of the project, which brought together various partners (Municipality of Nova Gorica, Youth Center Nova Gorica, School Center Nova Gorica, SLOSKI Institute, and UP FTŠ Turistica), the students encouraged visitors of Planica to make their own sustainable coffee using their own energy, generated by cycling.

By powering the bike and generating energy, they boiled water and made coffee with it. With a short survey, the students investigated their behavior, i. e., whether they had decided to participate only because of the free coffee or whether the motives were related to sustainable behavior and sports activities.

The project coordinator Assist. prof. Lesjak said that "the sustainable bicycles in Planica had a special function - they showed visitors they could prepare their morning coffee using self-generated energy. The project promoted sustainable mobility and environmentally friendly behavior. «
