  • Opening of the Photography Exhibition Moments by Ubald Trnkoczy

Portorož, November 28, 2024 – The University of Primorska, Faculty of Tourism Studies Turistica, Department of Cultural Tourism, officially opened the photography exhibition Moments by renowned photographer Ubald Trnkoczy today at 12:00. The exhibition is located on the first floor of the UP FTŠ Turistica building at Obala 11a in Portorož and will be on display until January 6, 2025.

The Moments exhibition offers a unique insight into the tourist life of Piran, which the author carefully observed and documented over two years. The series of 28 photographs intertwines the lives of local residents and visitors, captured in spontaneous moments that humorously tell stories while also encouraging reflection. The images invite us to think about how we impact the environment, local population, and the rhythm of the destinations we visit.

With its invaluable cultural heritage and picturesque scenery, Piran is presented in the photographs as an exceptionally attractive location. It is not only a haven for beautiful visuals but also a space for contemplating the effects of mass tourism. The exhibition is part of the initiative by the public enterprise Okolje Piran, Love Piran, aimed at promoting responsible tourism in this beautiful and, as the author describes it, photogenic coastal town full of stories.

Ubald Trnkoczy is a distinguished creator who has left an indelible mark in the fields of photography, film, and television throughout his illustrious career. He began his professional journey as the first freelance photographer for the Ljubljana-based newspaper Dnevnik and later worked for many years at RTV Slovenia as a cameraman and director of photography, contributing to over 120 documentary and fictional productions. Following his retirement, he dedicated himself to the cultural heritage of Piran. With his photographic lens and film camera, he collaborates with various local organizations. In 2021, he was honored with the Tartini Municipal Award for his cultural achievements.

With today’s opening, UP FTŠ Turistica aims to offer visitors and its students – future experts in tourism – a unique cultural experience and an opportunity to reflect on the relationship between local communities and tourism.

The exhibition is open to visitors until Monday, January 6, 2025, from Monday to Friday between 8:00 AM and 7:00 PM.
