The Rector of the University of Primorska has appointed assoc. prof. Emil Juvan, PhD Australia, as the new Dean, in accordance with the election results held at the Faculty of Tourism Studies – Turistica in March 2024.

The new Dean will hold the position from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2028, thus succeeding assist. prof. Marijana Sikošek, who led the faculty for the past four years. His leadership will focus on enhancing the awareness among professional, general, and political audiences about the importance of professional knowledge in tourism and creating conditions for quality educational and research activities in the tourism field. Together with his colleagues, he will strive for a responsible approach to educational and research activities, leading to the formation of skilled professionals in tourism. He will place special emphasis on aligning tourism education with the needs of the economy and elevating the reputation of tourism as an educational and research activity at all three levels of study.

Upon assuming his mandate, he emphasized: “We are facing new challenges and numerous projects, new ideas that we want to realize for the benefit of employees, students, and the economy. The doors of Turistica will, as always, be open to all who are interested in the sustainable development of tourism and partnerships for creating a quality research, educational, and business environment in tourism. With cooperation, I believe that in the coming years we will further strengthen the status of our faculty as Slovenia's leading academic, scientific research, and professional institution in the field of tourism.”
