  • Students of Turistica enriched the photopoint above Koper with their idea

The panoramic photo point in Marezige is now adorned with two of the largest wooden wine glasses in the world. Turistica students used the knowledge gained during their studies to design an idea for a wine landmark, which they presented at the opening on Saturday, April 16, 2022. The landmark will most likely also compete for the Guinness Book of Records.

The idea for the sculpture of wine glasses was designed during the startup weekend hosted by UP FTŠ Turistica.

Students Ajda Medvešek, Jaka Godejša and Marcel Višner solved the challenge set by Mr. Alen Babič in October 2019 as part of a start-up weekend. The event took place in October 2019 as part of the activities of the R&D program "UP FTŠ sTOUdio Turistica". The mission of the program is to promote the participation of students in development projects focused on analytics, consulting, innovation, and practical work in the economy sector, through which they develop skills under the supervision of practitioners and pedagogical and research staff.

"For me, as a local, this photo spot is much more than just a tourist attraction. It is also a work of art that celebrates the local culture of viticulture. My great-grandfather Berto and my grandfather Danilo have already won several awards here, including the golden one - and I am very proud to have been able to contribute to the development of the capital of the Refošk wine with this project. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the development of this project. Above all, I would like to thank the academic mentors from the Faculty of Tourism Studies Turistica, who make such stories possible within the sTOUdio Turistica project," said the student Jaka Godejša, who participated in the conception of the idea.

The sculpture of two wine glasses respects the local identity of the place and addresses the winemakers of the Slovenian Istria, who produce excellent wine year after year, especially the Refošk and Malvasia wines, which is reflected in the color of the glasses, which glow red and yellow at night. With their idea, the students wanted to create a meeting point where everyone can enjoy the fruits of the year-round work of winemakers.

The opening took place on Saturday, April 16, 2022, in Marezige. Accompanied by the orchestra, the glasses was ceremoniously unveiled and with that a new photo spot with the most beautiful view in Slovenian Istria.
