The event titled Mathematics in Everyday Life provided students with insight into the practical application of mathematical knowledge. Lana Fornazarič first introduced the association’s activities and mission, followed by Lan Batič, who empowered students to more effectively recognize financial fraud and emphasized the importance of critically evaluating the news that surrounds us at every step. Žan Perat then took participants on an engaging journey through the history and development of artificial intelligence, highlighting possible directions for its future growth.
Students then divided into smaller groups and took part in practical exercises, solving mathematical challenges and testing the application of their knowledge in everyday situations. This allowed them to better understand the connection between theoretical knowledge and real-life problems. One group focused on analyzing the online game Plinko and used mathematical calculations to demonstrate that the game does not generate profit. Another group explored the topic of pay differences between men and women.
In the final part of the event, everyone came together to analyze the game of roulette, once again demonstrating that the house always wins. The day concluded with a reflection session, during which students expressed enthusiasm for the content, practical examples, and the inspiring approach of the association’s members. The event encouraged deeper critical thinking and active participation in addressing future challenges.
