  • Turistica's Career Day Successfully Connected Students and Employers

On Thursday, April 24, 2025, the traditional Career Day took place at UP FTŠ Turistica, once again organized by the Student Council of UP FTŠ Turistica. The event brought together students, alumni, and employers, providing a platform to discuss career opportunities, modern employment challenges, and the role of the younger generation in tourism.

The event opened with a roundtable discussion on the topic “Generation Z and Employers in Tourism”, moderated by Turistica’s Vice-Dean, Prof. Dr. Maja Uran Maravić. Participants included Dr. Emil Juvan, Dean of Turistica, Mateja Pavlič, Executive Director of the San Simon Resort (Sava Turizem d.d.), Jakob Mlakar, student at UP FTŠ Turistica, and Vesna Komat, Director of Revenue Management at The Lake Como EDITION, who joined online.

The discussion shed light on current challenges and opportunities in the labor market, focusing on the characteristics and values of Generation Z, employer expectations, and the importance of adapting work environments. Speakers highlighted the growing need for adjustments in communication and training, the value of authenticity in the workplace, and evolving perspectives on work-life balance (such as remote work and flexible hours). They also addressed the importance of self-confidence among young people entering the job market and the crucial role of intergenerational understanding in today’s workspaces. Vesna Komat noted: “Generational differences have always existed, but today we are more aware of them – it is important that we build bridges between generations.” An important part of the discussion was the contribution of students themselves – representatives of Generation Z – who shared their expectations, challenges, and views on the labor market and workplace dynamics.

Following the roundtable, a networking fair took place, where students had the opportunity to personally connect with employers such as Hotel Kempinski Palace, Sava Turizem, Jezeršek Catering, Maistra, Visit Kras, Turizem Pivka, and others. Each organization was available to discuss internship opportunities, student jobs, and potential future collaborations.

Career Day at UP FTŠ Turistica is yet another testament to the faculty’s commitment not only to producing graduates, but also to creating real opportunities. The event served as an inspiring platform for new connections, ideas, and career breakthroughs. Tjaša Hajnžič, President of the Student Council and the event’s main organizer, concluded: “Career Day is not just an informative event – it is a space for inspiration and connection. I’m proud that my team and I created something that truly opens doors for young people.”
