Career Day at Turistica
Tourism beyond traditional frameworks opens new career opportunities

On Wednesday, 15 April 2026, Turistica successfully hosted its Career Day, organised by the Faculty’s Student Council. The event, held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., brought together students, industry professionals, and representatives of companies from the tourism sector.

This year’s central theme, Tourism beyond traditional frameworks,” highlighted the diversity of modern careers in tourism that go beyond conventional roles in hospitality. Through presentations and personal insights from the speakers, students explored opportunities in creative industries, digital marketing, event management, and sustainable development.

In the opening session, established professionals shared their career paths, including Gregor Simčič Žorž (Lepa Štorija: Locap Group), Kristina Taja Grünfeld (EXTREM Agency), Sara Pfeifer Milčinović (Portorož Tourist Board), Mitja Žnidaršič (LifeClass Hotels & Spa), and Manca Korelc (entrepreneur). In the discussion, moderated by Prof. Dr. Maja Uran Maravić, participants emphasised that the future of tourism goes beyond traditional perceptions of the industry and is evolving into an interdisciplinary field that combines creativity, entrepreneurship, digital skills, and strategic thinking. They agreed that tourism today is no longer limited to hospitality jobs but offers a wide range of career opportunities across various sectors. They also highlighted the importance of student proactivity, the courage to approach employers, ask questions, and make the most of such opportunities for networking and gaining first professional experience. This was followed by a presentation of best practices in onboarding new employees into hotel teams, presented by Istrabenz Turizem as a project partner within the student project (PUŠ) Ambassador of Excellence – Successful Integration of New Employees into Hotel Teams.

A special focus of the event was dedicated to connecting students with employers. Numerous companies presented themselves in the faculty lobby, where participants had the opportunity to engage directly with industry representatives, gain valuable information about internships, student work, and future career opportunities, while also building their first important professional connections.

The event continued with practical workshops designed for students of different study years, offering concrete skills for entering the labour market. Image and dress consultant Lea Pisani introduced the importance of business attire and first impressions in job interviews. LinkedIn expert, entrepreneur, and trainer Manca Korelc delivered a workshop on the effective use of LinkedIn, covering profile optimisation, personal branding, and networking for career opportunities. The event concluded with a clothing swap, which, alongside expert advice, encouraged sustainable thinking and creative combinations of professional outfits.

Turistica’s Career Day in Portorož once again highlighted the importance of a comprehensive approach to preparing students for the labour market, not only in terms of knowledge, but also personal presentation, networking, and sustainability. The event reaffirmed Turistica’s role as a hub for connection, inspiration, and the development of future tourism professionals.
