This year’s theme,
Travel Beyond Horizons: Earth and Space
invites researchers and photographers to embark on a visual exploration, encouraging them to capture and share their perspectives on the practices, destinations, and challenges that shape the way we gaze at space.
Through this theme, we aim to inspire creators to embrace the challenges that shape our perspective on the cosmos - from ancient myths and astronomical observations of the mysterious night sky (astrotourism), to the cutting-edge technological advancements and humanity’s tangible steps into space (space tourism).
The photo competition awards an exhibition of the finalists in the art gallery of the University of Primorska, which will coincide with the University of Primorska ceremonial week and the 30th anniversary celebraion of its Faculty of Tourism Studies Turistica, featuring a series of events.
The ceremonial opening of the exhibition will take place in Koper, Slovenia, on 19 March 2025.
GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION
Participation is free of charge and implies that the participant fully accepted the terms and conditions outlined in this call. Submitted works must be original, and each participant may submit only one photograph. Participants are required to complete the registration form at: AVANTURISTICA FORM
and submit their photos, documents and the acceptance of the rules form to the email addres: avanturistica@upr.fts.si
In the registration form, please provide the following information:
- First and last name
- Phone number*
- Email address*
- The location and date the photograph was taken
- Technical information (camera, aperture, shutter speed, etc.)
- A caption for the photograph.

DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES
All entries must be submitted in full by 27 February 2025 (midnight CET).
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS AND DIGITAL GUIDELINES
- Digital photographs must be in JPG or TIFF format.
- Since the selected photographs will primarily be printed and exhibited in A3 size (approximately 30 × 42 cm), and some potentially in larger formats, the images must be of high quality (300 dpi), with at least 3000 pixels on the longer side.
- You may submit colour or black-and-white photographs, and both landscape and portrait orientations are accepted.
- Exclusively computer-generated content or content created using artificial intelligence is not acceptable, and no artificially generated elements may be added in post-processing. The photograph must not be a photomontage and must not include signatures, frames, or watermark.
JURY
After the deadline for submission all photographs will be submitted to a jury composed by photographers and space travel researchers. The jury will meet to select the images to be exhibited and select the winner. The jury will make their selection in accordance with anonymity rules. The results will be communicated to participants by email on 27 February 2025 will be and officially announced during the University of Primorska ceremony week in March 2025.
EXHIBITION
The photographs selected by the jury will be printed without modification to the file, and exhibited from 19 March to 30 May 2025 in the exhibition hall of the University of Primorska.
COPYRIGHT AND REPRODUCTION RIGHTS
By participating, photographers affirm that each image they submit is their original work and that they own the rights to the image. The author grants the University of Primorska the right to reproduce the image for non-commercial purposes, exclusively for the exhibition and promotion of the exhibition. The images will always be labelled with the author's name. UP Faculty of Tourism Studies TURISTICA will retain ownership of the physical prints of the exhibited photographs. The physical prints will be labelled with the author’s name in the Faculty’s archives as well.
DATA PROTECTION
The information provided by participants may be used only in the context of the photo competition. In all cases, it should be noted that photo competition participants have the right to oppose and rectify the data concerning them. This is in accordance with the current European laws and directives and the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES FORM
Participation in the AvanTURISTICA photo competition implies the participant’s full and complete adherence to these rules.
