Emil Juvan je docent za področje poslovno – organizacijskih znanosti v turizmu na Fakulteti za Turistične študije Turistica, Univerza na Primorskem. Svojo izobraževalno pot je v celoti usmeril na področje gostinstva in turizma na izobraževalnih inštitucijah v Sloveniji, ZDA in v Avstraliji. Leta 2015 je na The University of Queensland, UQ Business School pridobil naziv Doctor of Philosophy, pred tem pa naziva Magister znanosti (FDV, Univerza v Ljubljani) in Magister turizma (FTŠ, Univerza na Primorskem).

Delovne izkušnje je nabiral v hotelskih in drugih turističnih podjetjih v Sloveniji in Združenih državah Amerike. Od leta 2005 je redno zaposlen na Fakulteti za turistične študije Turistica, v letih 2008-2010 je bil tudi gostujoči predavatelj na The University Center Cesar Ritz v Švici. Svoje raziskovalno – razvojno delo usmerja v področja razvoja in managementa turističnih destinacij in negativnih vplivov turizma na okolje. Pri raziskovalnem delu se zavzema za dvig kakovosti znanstveno – raziskovalnega dela na področju turizma, kjer primarno sledi delu profesorice Sare Dolničar, ene izmed najbolj vplivnih znanstvenic s področja merjenj v družboslovnih znanosti na svetu.

Emil se ukvarja tudi z internacionalizacijo izobraževalnega sistema v Sloveniji, kjer predvsem pospešuje povezovanje slovenskih znanstvenikov z uglednimi strokovnjaki iz tujine. Strokovno se ukvarja še strateškim načrtovanjem in operacionalizacijo razvoja turističnih destinacij ter implementacijo poslovnih praks za zmanjšanje negativnih vplivov turizma na okolje. Je avtor oziroma soavtor več znanstvenih člankov v najbolj uglednih mednarodnih revijah s področja turizma, učbenika in znanstvenih ter strokovnih monografij.

Za svoje delo je prejel številna priznanja, med drugim tudi The Rama Krisha Sastry Pappu Memorial Prize for Research Higher Degree Excellence in Business (the UQ Business School, Queensland) v letu 2016.

 

Emil Juvan is an Assistant professor of Business and Organizational sciences in tourism at the Faculty of Tourism Studies Turistica, University of Primorska. His entire formal education was within the field of hospitality and tourism at schools in Slovenia, United States of America and Australia. In 2015, he completed PhD studies at The University of Queensland (The UQ Business School), before that he gained a Master of Science degree (FDV, University of Ljubljana) and a Master of Tourism degree (FTŠ, University of Primorska).

Emil has extensive working experiences from hotel and other tourism companies in Slovenia and abroad. He holds a full time teaching position at the Faculty of Tourism Studies Turistica from 2005 onward; between 2008 and 2010, he was also a visiting lecturer at The University Center Cesar Ritz in Switzerland. Emil’s research focus is development and management of tourist destinations and reducing negative environmental impacts of tourism. He aims at rising the quality of scientific research in the field of tourism, where he primarily follows the work of Professor Sara Dolnicar, one of the leading international experts in testing and refinement of measures used in social science research.

Emil is also active in the field of internationalization of the Slovenian higher education system, where he actively promotes networking between Slovenian and respected researchers outside Slovenia. Emil’s professional work involves strategic planning and operationalization of business models for reducing environmental impacts of tourism. He authored or co-authored several scientific papers published in leading international journals from the field of Hospitality and Tourism, a textbook, scientific, and professional monographs.

Emil received several recognitions and awards for his work, most recently The Rama Krisha Sastry Pappu Memorial Prize for Research Higher Degree Excellence in Business (the UQ Business School, Queensland).
